DEWALT DCD970KL 18-Volt XRP Drill Kit Review

DeWalt DCD970KL YouTube Review

[Rating on Amazon 4.5 / 5 Stars]

The DeWalt DCD970KL cordless drill takes a licking and keeps on drilling and hammerdrilling and any other type of “-ing” you can think of…

“…it can withstand use AND abuse! If it gets dropped, it gets up;” I am paraphrasing a review from an owner who bought the DeWalt DCD970KL drill kit for his father. This tool is a tough, professional grade tool. He adds, “…there is nothing that this thing can’t withstand that made it inoperable.” DeWalt’s reputation for producing a tough drill that does not sacrifice power and durability even though it is portable remains intact with the production of the DeWalt DCD970KL XRP. The reviews on this drill indicate that contractors and professionals use it – in fact, my brother who is a journeyman electrician from Washington State is visiting us for the Holidays and he was looking at the drill and commented, “Oh, that is the drill we use at work.”

However, just because this drill is used by professionals, doesn’t mean DIY enthusiasts are left out.  As the DeWalt DCD970KL customer review above shows; home repair hobbyists love to have this drill kit.

At 6 lbs, it is a heavier drill.  One feature which takes some getting used to, is the hammer feature.  Even if you are not using the hammer function, you may find the chuck has a little play back and forth which can cause some to lose control of the bit. However, the DeWalt DCD970KL is a hammerdrill, and any hammerdrill will function slightly different than a standard drill. With a little patience to adjust, I think you will find this drill kit to be a great addition to your repertoire of high quality tools. My first hammerdrill took some time to get used to, but once I did, I loved it – my current hammerdrill is a DeWalt corded drill.DEWALT DCD970KL XRP

While writing this article, I found the price for this drill kit (it can go for over $635…) This drill Kit is currently available from Amazon at a whopping 59% discount!  Click this link to take advantage of this massive discount on the DeWalt DCD970KL XRP Drill Kit!

Please note: While the DeWalt DCD970KL XRP drill kit is made for professionals, folks who want to get their home repairs done quickly and without hassle will find this drill invaluable.

Some of the features you will find of the DEWALT DCD970KL 18-Volt 1/2-Inch XRP Lithium-Ion Hammerdrill/Driver/Drill Kit:

  • Three-year limited warranty, one-year free service, 90-day money-back guarantee
  • 18 volt motor delivering 450 unit watts out – Power in your hands
  • The 18 volt batteries included with this kit offer durability and a long battery life at an estimated 2000 re-charges.
  • Drill take advantage of its patented 3-speed transmission, which is all-metal and delivers the following 3 drill speed settings:
    • 0 – 500 rpm
    • 0 – 1250 rpm
    • 0 – 2000 rpm
  • Hammerdrill mode provides the following three bpm settings:
    • 0 – 8500 bpm
    • 0 – 21250 bpm
    • 0 – 34000 bpm
  • 1/2-inch chuck which is heavy duty and self-tightening
  • Increased visibility in confined spaces due to the LED worklight

The DeWalt DCD970KL drill kit, includes a 360-degree side handle which can make light work of 3″ decking screws into 2″x4″s, drilling holes in cinder blocks or into steel plates. The Lithium-Ion batteries provide a better weight:power ratio than Ni-Cads do. With the only potential hiccup on this drill being minor chuck movement – if you can learn to overcome this very minor issue as your skill with the drill increases, we think you will find this to be an excellent choice to help maintain your home or if you are a professional it should help you to get your jobs done more quickly, easily and with more profit in your pocket.

Please read what one owner had to say about his DEWALT DCD970KL XRP Drill Kit

…An excellent drill with a lot of power & torque. I use it to rebuild wooden gates & fences…it is one of the best drills I have owned. The Li-Ion batteries hold up & recharge quickly. It is NOT light… but that adds to stability & reduced fatigue when drilling through thick wood – it is worth every dollar… (Gene J. Martin)
